Blog 10: Senior Project Update

1. During my independent component, I've been helping take care of the kids at the day care at YMCA. There, I get the kids to participate in games or drawing. I also help anyone who needs help with homework. Overall, I just make sure the kids have a fun time while waiting for their parents.

2. Lately, I've been reading a book called Social Work Practice with Children & Families. It has really helped me understand how to approach struggling families in a healthy & beneficial way. I haven't read much of it so far, but it's really helping me understand some of the clients at the Crisis Center a little bit better. For example, the book is helping me think about how I would approach a certain client at the Center who is currently trying to cope with her son's murder within a gang she is associated with.

3. "Supporting children's efforts in grieving a loss strengthens bonds & allows children to know that they are not alone. What children need most to assist them as they move through the grieving process is someone to listen actively & permissively to them." - Understanding Children's Reactions to LossSocial Work Practice with Children & Families pg. 97
