Blog 7: Independent Component 1 Plan Approval

1. For my independent study component, I planned on either possibly taking another Psychology course at either Chaffey college, Cal Poly or Mt. Sac, or volunteer at a child care facility or at the day care at YMCA. If I successfully get into a Psychology class, then I want to take a class other than the Introduction to Psychology or Developmental Psychology classes, because I've already taken those two classes during my junior year.

2. If I go through with the plan of getting into a class, it would meet the 30 hours because I would be going to class as many times a week that's required & I would eventually meet 30 hours by going to every class. If I go through with the volunteering, I would meet the hours by going there at least three times a week or so.

3. My idea for taking a class for the independent component is in relation to my EQ because of all the people I've talked to so far about the profession of clinical social work, they all recommended to also study Psychology. They recommended this because it's useful to understand certain things about the human mind & human emotions when providing therapy for a troubled individual. It gives you a professional & educational advantage. My other idea to volunteer at a child care facility or day care is relevant because it would teach me to be able to work with people of all ages, but because I'm only 17, I feel that it would be best for me to first learn how to work with those younger than me. I think it would also teach me to be more observant with certain behaviors, for example, if the child is upset in some way, I could maybe help him or her out & make sure they leave the facility feeling better.
